Seems the difference between good Liverpool and shit Liverpool is Sadio Mane. In his second start since returning from the AFCON he registered a 16 point haul and was the highest scoring player of the week. And it seems the only manager who knows the difference between good Liverpool and shit Liverpool is Hedgehog Corpse. Handing Mane the armband catapulted the Corpse up to fifth in the League and into third place in the February table.

We’ve only one more February gameweek left. It’s all to play for. In truth, there could be as many as 20 teams in it. Gameweek 26 kicks off in a fortnight after the break for the FA Cup 5th round, and is a reduced gameweek due to the League Cup. Those 5th round results will be worth keeping an eye on as they’ll determine who is in line to play in Gameweek 28. Negotiating the next few weeks is not going to be straightforward, especially if you’re still involved in the Buckets Cup.

The second round match ups are ready to view on the Buckets Cup link. There were some close run things this week – and some surprise results. 4 Fuchs Ake won the Fuchs derby. Racing Club Skegness are the lowest ranked team left in and sprang the biggest surprise, knocking out Greenyteamy. Hedgehogs high score saw off third placed When Harry Met Alli, whilst fourth placed Yeboah’s fell to 31st placed Jarvis FC.

Player of the week – Sadio Mane – 16 points. Just as you got shot of the Liverpool midfield.

Bargain of the week – Alfie Mawson – 15 points. Cheap goalscoring defender alert….

Donkey of the week – Jason Denayer – -2 points. Meanwhile, the Sunderland revival….

Goal of the week – Alfie Mawson. …and one of them was a sweet volley.

Jetty City, for the second consecutive week, win manager of the week. They were the only team to manage a 50+ score during the drab midweek. This weekend they almost hit a century. Had they played their perfect XI or played their bench boost they’d have got past the 100 point mark and achieved the highest weekly score.

They were one of the few teams who went with a Lukaku/Defoe double pronged attack, captaining the Belgian, and picking up 55 points from their strike force along. That’s more points from two players than most teams managed with their full XI – the teams that unluckily had neither striker in their line up. There were plenty of teams carrying Lukaku, most notably our top two, Aquamar and When Harry Met Alli, who both handed him the armband.

Aquamar were involved in the biggest tie of the preliminary round of the Buckets Cup, coming up against sixth placed Kebab Eaters United and triumphing 71-64. It’s unlucky on Kebab Eaters who were the second highest scoring losers of the round. Shoelace crept through scoring only 35 points to Bazza 28 United’s 30. No Fuchs Given and 4 Fuchs Ake’s victories have set up a Fuchs derby in the first round proper, whilst the closest tie of the round saw Hedgehog’s beat Uriah’s on goals scored, 5 to 4 – Lukaku the difference again. All results and revised first round draw are on the Buckets Cup page.

Player of the week – Romelu Lukaku – 21 points. Cue kneejerk Lukaku transferring across the board.

Bargain of the week – Lamine Kone – 13 points. Palace doomed.

Donkey of the week – Jeff Hendrick – -2 points. He lasted six minutes.

Goal of the week – Eden Hazard.

It was one of those weekends where the form players and the big guns had a few days off. Only nine of us mustered a score over 50. The winning weekly total of 60 was the lowest of the season so far and was achieved by When Harry Met Alli, whose highest scores came from the more unlikley areas of their team. Clean sheets for Stoke and Watford and a first Premier League goal for Christian Fuchs contributed 21 of those points. Choosing Dimitri Payet as captain may not sound all that ridiculous, but the West Ham talisman’s slightly under the radar (but still pretty decent) start has been overshadowed somewhat by the overall form of his team. Although it’s two wins and two clean sheets on the spin now.

WHMA had slightly less bad luck with their elite bunch than everyone else it seems. Another blank for Aguero – that’s just two points in three weeks now – came in alongside an unexpected low return from Alexis Sanchez and just an assist from Romelu Lukaku. The weeks scoring is perhaps best summed up by the fact that despite Chelsea netting four times against Manchester United, Diego Costa was not among those goalscorers.

Player of the week – Xherdan Shaqiri – 15 points. Two lovely goals.

Bargain of the week – Scott Arfield – 12 points. Burnley strong at home

Donkey of the week – Eric Bailly – -1 points. Shit.

Goal of the week – Christian Fuchs. A close call with Shaqiri’s first.

They pulled out all the stops with a wildcard week, overloading the midfield with big hitters. It’s a tactic worth exploring. The big numbers occur week on week in the middle of the park. The stats back this up. Fifteen midfielders have made it past the 30 point barrier compared to six forwards and only one defender. This week has seen 12 midfielders reach double figures, compared to only three forwards and four defenders. The top eight scoring players in the game are midfielders. Five of these eight lined up for Rico United this week and contributed 73 of their 86 points.

There’s a lot of chopping and changing going on at the top of the pile. No Fuchs Given, which will be written like this from now on, become our fifth different leader in six weeks. Last week’s leader, When Harry Met Alli, had a poor week, despite drafting Sergio Aguero back in and making him captain. He was let down by the other ten players and wasn’t able to hold on to the lead in the monthly table either.

Player of the week – Adam Lallana – 15 points. One of nine Liverpool midfielders who earned points this week.

Bargain of the week – Michael Keane – 14 points. Goal, clean sheet, bonuses.

Donkey of the week – Ahmed Elmohamady – -2 points. Hull players can’t stop hand-balling on the line.

Goal of the week – Demarai Gray.

Normal service has been resumed. It was an eventful run up to the gameweek – what with nearly everyone buying someone and breaking their transfer record to do it. I could have spent the entire preview piece going through the new signings and who might make an impact. As it happened, most made their debuts from the bench, and hardly any scored big points. Sadio Mane, Steven Defour and Christian Benteke appear on page one of the highest weekly scores – they’re the only three.

The main talking point was the ban handed out to Sergio Aguero following the elbowing incident against West Ham before the international break – and the fact that it was ahead of the most blown out of all proportion/anticipated game of the early season. Three matches in total – but only two Premier League gameweeks – the other game being City’s League Cup tie against Swansea next week. Over a million managers across the game dispensed with his services, although I have noticed him lingering on a few Buckets benches. You might have expected Zlatan to be the player most other managers turned to, but Alvaro Negredo was ahead of the Manchester United striker as the most transferred player in. Closely followed by Diego Costa. Of those three, it was the Chelsea madman who contributed the most points. It’s also worth noting he picked up his third booking in four games. He may be the perfect replacement for Aguero, whose return from suspension could well coincide with a ban for Costa for reaching five yellows.

The perfect replacement, however, would have been Romelu Lukaku. Not many people took a punt on the Everton striker. Not scoring a league goal for six months probably had something to do with that. When Harry Met Alli, nO fucHs given and Uriah’s were the main beneficiaries of Lukaku’s 11 minute hat trick. Uriah’s and nO fucHs made him captain – thus contributing 34 points to their score. Everton players added another 14 points to Uriah’s total enabling them to jump over 20 places and into the top 10 off the back of just one game.

When Harry Met Alli jumped nine places to move to the top of the table employing both Costa (as captain) and Lukaku. Their 41 points contribute towards a total of 79 which was the second highest total of the week. The highest weekly scorers were To Elland Back. Their 80 points catapulted them 23 places from 26th to third. They also handed Costa the armband and he was ably assisted by Robert Snodgrass, Roberto Firmino and Harry Kane who also all found the back of the net.

We’ve two new recruits, which has expanded the prize pot and slightly altered the cup format, so check the relevant links to see those updates. That’s the deadline for new admissions. We’ve 53 managers – that’s amazing. It’s even created a page two relegation zone on the website.*

Player of the week – Heung Min Son – 19 points. Crushing Stoke, the early season whipping boys.

Bargain of the week – Etienne Capoue – 13 points. Three goals in four games!!!

Donkey of the week – Robert Huth – -1 points. Remember, they couldn’t keep a clean sheet for the first half of last season either.

Goal of the week – Steven Defour. A good week this week.

*No-one will actually be relegated – don’t worry.
