They pulled out all the stops with a wildcard week, overloading the midfield with big hitters. It’s a tactic worth exploring. The big numbers occur week on week in the middle of the park. The stats back this up. Fifteen midfielders have made it past the 30 point barrier compared to six forwards and only one defender. This week has seen 12 midfielders reach double figures, compared to only three forwards and four defenders. The top eight scoring players in the game are midfielders. Five of these eight lined up for Rico United this week and contributed 73 of their 86 points.

There’s a lot of chopping and changing going on at the top of the pile. No Fuchs Given, which will be written like this from now on, become our fifth different leader in six weeks. Last week’s leader, When Harry Met Alli, had a poor week, despite drafting Sergio Aguero back in and making him captain. He was let down by the other ten players and wasn’t able to hold on to the lead in the monthly table either.

Player of the week – Adam Lallana – 15 points. One of nine Liverpool midfielders who earned points this week.

Bargain of the week – Michael Keane – 14 points. Goal, clean sheet, bonuses.

Donkey of the week – Ahmed Elmohamady – -2 points. Hull players can’t stop hand-balling on the line.

Goal of the week – Demarai Gray.
