Someone needs to read the rules. When you make 10 transfers, make sure you play your wildcard. And although playing your triple captain did pay off this week, you’ve missed the opportunity of playing it in a double gameweek. I’m talking about our gameweek 2 highest scorers, DJ’s Trail Blazers – who did exactly that – picking up 86 points – an impressive total – with double figure contributions from the three leading strikers – that’s a cumulative 69 points from Aguero (as triple captain), Ibrahimovic and Negredo – but instead of climbing the league – dropped 18 places into the bottom half. The Trail Blazers would have been top of the league and in pole position for the first monthly prize. Instead they occupy 28th place. Shame.

The race for the August prize promises to be a close one with potentially 20-25 times in with a shot. Most of of the top half posted good 60 and 70+ scores. The early pacesetter from last season, The Golden Boys, reached 81 points. That was enough to see them jump into 7th place. The Golden Boys, despite leading the league for most of the first half of last season, never won a manager of the month award. Maybe this is their time.

There’ll be those that kept Aguero as captain celebrating the 26 points added to their totals and those that made the switch to Ibrahimovic equally as happy with their choice. Are we already seeing a two way battle to claim the golden boot? Also netting a brace this weekend were Nolito, who did so from the bench, and Cristhian Stuani for Middlesbrough, who takes a clean sweep of player and goal of the week. Stuani didn’t feature last week, and saw his value drop ahead of this. I imagine that will climb back up before the next round of fixtures.

Player of the week – Christian Stuani – 13 points. His first was a belter

Bargain of the week – Shaun Maloney – 11 points. Hull??????!?!?!?!?!

Donkey of the week – Harry Arter – -1 points. Bournemouth’s tough start is telling.

Goal of the week – Cristhian Stuani. His first. Belter.
