Thick and fast. Two days on from the full Boxing Day schedule, the silly season continues with a full gamut of fixtures of this weekend. Only 40 hours separate the full time whistle in West Brom and West Ham’s Thursday games to their lunchtime kick off on Saturday. It’s the final gameweek of the year – and the final gameweek in the slog to the December manager of the month.

The winner of which will be the manager picking the best captain option, which might be stating the obvious, but with Liverpool’s second tough away trip to a title contender (Chelsea) coming at the end of this gameweek, the potential is there again for Luis Suarez not to find the net. Managers again may have to find an alternative option. Manchester City hosting Crystal Palace seems like too much of a home goalfest banker to ignore. As may Wayne Rooney’s good form against a Norwich defence that have conceded 31 goals. Sunderland, believe it or not, probably offer the best clean sheet chance of the weekend. It’s three clean sheets in a row for the Mackems, and Vito Mannone has picked up two consecutive double figure gameweek scores. The keeper has a good chance of making it four on the spin against Cardiff, who look incapable of any kind of positive result at the moment.
