The final of the Buckets Cup has been decided. Rip Roaring Reds triumphed in a low scoring semi against nOnEoFTHeABOve. Both maybe have one eye on their league placing, and didn’t go all out to win the tie. Rip Roaring Reds nicked it with a Yaya Toure goal. noneOfTHEAbove didn’t score – and didn’t progress. In the other semi, Uriah Rennie won another fairly low scoring affair against Neil Madrid on their captain choice. Picking Rooney ahead of Van Persie paid off. Neil Madrid also left James McLean on the bench. Had he made the starting XI, we’d have a different final. The final will take place this weekend. Good luck to both teams.

In the league, the best performing teams were those bubbling under the chasing pack. Panza, Uriah, Bermie and top scorers Pescara all edged a little bit closer to the top four or five, all of whom had a relatively poor week. Pescara managed a good 69 point haul, a 42 point swing on 4th placed Crazylegs. Shadwell, still anchored to the bottom, and still not playing, are right in the race for the Manager of the Month. Funny really, for a yid. The two Arsenal players in his original August starting XI are the main reason behind this recent good run. Vermaelen and Gibbs, aswell as keeping clean sheets, have three goals between them in the last few weeks, and eight bonus points. Shadwell could win Manager of the Month off the back of Arsenal’s recent return to form, which started with the 5-2 thumping of his team at the Emirates six weeks ago.

We’ve had a few contenders for goal of the season in recent weeks. Van Persie scored a sublime controlled volley a few weeks back. Sebastian Coates scored his netbusting horizontal volley last week for Liverpoo (that’s not a typo). But who’d have thought Peter twatting Crouch would come along, and beyond all doubt, win this year’s award. I can say quite confidently, even with eight weeks of the season left, that goal will not be bettered this season. The ball didn’t touch the ground. Begovic hoofs it, Pennant heads it, Crouch controls it sideways on to the goal, at an angle, from 35 yards and …. bang. It should have flown out of the stadium and into the Trent, as they quite often do when he tries his daft gangly overhead kicks.

  • Player of the week – David Wheater. Twice a donkey, now the player of the week.
  • Bargain of the week – Hatem Ben Arfa. The real bargain is Wheater, but you can’t have both awards, and at 5.5 million, 15 points is a good return
  • Donkey of the week – Djibril Cisse. Played five, scored three, sent off twice. Brilliant.

Goal o’t weekend
