Gameweek 10 preview

October 28, 2011

Who will be culled from the Manchester United team this week following last weeks 6-1 humiliation at the hands of City? Check the form guide – no Manchester United players. Rooney hasn’t scored in four weeks – Nani in three – Young in six weeks. Between them they’ve nothced up only two assists in the same amount of time. Manchester United are not a team in form at the moment. They’ve only kept one clean sheet in the last month also. Against Everton, who are finding their feet, a clean sheet may well evade them again. Although they rarely don’t score, it’s not the big name players who are doing it for them. Ashley Young in particular has seen his bright start fade pretty miserably. But…..this is Man U. Take drastic action at your peril. They might be the worst team to face after a 6 goal thrashing. The likes of Hernandez, Park, Cleverley – even Berbatov, may benefit from last weeks defeat, and get a game. You wouldn’t put it past any of them to get their names on the scoresheet.

Newcastle lost their unbeaten record in the middle of the week, and come up against Stoke, at the Britannia, and not in a Europa week. The next five games for Newcastle are tough, culminating in three matches against the three  favourites for the title. The best defence in the league may not be that come the start of December.

The in form player at present is Rafael Van Der Vaart. He has scored in each of  his last four games. Spurs have QPR at home. Decent defensively, but only at Loftus Road. Van Der Vaart may continue this scoring record a while longer yet.

Robin Van Persie has  scored a goal a game since the start of the year. Arsenal’s shaky start is looking less so, although defensively, they’re still suspect. Cheslea are their opponents, who have Frank Lampard in fantasy form, largely aided by his hat trick at Bolton. A high scoring draw maybe? Van Persie would be a good bet for at least an assist in this game. Red cards could be an issue. Between them they have 6 for the season. Avoid the defence.

So you’re probably wondering who to pick in defence. Stoke could be an option. Man City definitely are. Although, being limited to three players per team makes it difficult to ignore their strike force and midfield. Balotelli, Dzeko, Aguero, Silva and Milner scored 51 points last week. They’ve got Wolves this. Surely another scoring fest, particularly given that they whacked 5 past the same team midweek in the Rumbelows Cup.

The clean sheet stats show Swansea, with Newcastle, leading the way. It’s not completely inconceivable that Newcastle won’t add to this. Swansea, however, could be a better bet. At home against a Bolton team, whose potent attacking threats are all either injured, or out of form. Danny Graham is the best looking cheap striker around at the moment too. He has 3 in 3, and 5 bonus points to boot. Well worth a punt.
