So who had Rooney? Who had Aguero?? Who had both??? Romeo’s Honda-Van did. And they win gameweek four with 89 points. All but one of our top 10 teams scored 70 points or more. All had one or the other, or both. And all had able back up. Silva and Nani got two assists each and 10 points. Phil Jones picked up extra assist and clean sheet points for United. Vincent Kompany got bonus and clean sheet points for City. Only former champs Pescara Rangers, of the top 10, didn’t pick Rooney or Aguero. And they floundered this week on 46 points, opting for goal machine Hudo Rodellega as their sole attacking option. To be fair, like maybe one or two others, Pecasra were stung by the Dzeko omission. Not the last time I’ll mention that.

They flashed a stat up during half time of the QPR v Newcastle game regarding record goal scoring starts to a season. Up until this season no player had ever reached the 8 goal mark by the fourth round of matches. Until now. Could Rooney score a third consecutive hat trick? Against Chelsea? At his current scoring rate he is picking up 14 points per match. If he keeps it up (bear with me), then he’ll finish the season on 522 points. Which is more than Shadwell Town score in most seasons.

I haven’t finished with this stat yet…..

Not only is Rooney a record breaker, but so are Dzeko and Aguero. Only one player – and I forget who it was (might have been Jason Lee) – had ever reached 6 goals by this point of the season. Both City strikers are already there. Mancini could even afford to drop Dzeko this weekend, such is the start that they have made. Replacing him with first time donkey Tevez. Makes you wonder why he felt the need to drop Dzeko for someone who doesn’t want to play for you, picks up £200,000 a week and can’t even despatch a penalty against Wigan. Of course this is all bitterness based on my dubious decision to DROP AGUERO?!?!??!

For the third successive week we have both Manchester teams winning, scoring, clean sheeting, and being the principal fantasy league points scorers. So if your team doesn’t consist of six Manchester players with some cheap shit (otherwise known as the Newcastle defence) crow barred in to fill the spaces, then you’re already not taking this game seriously. I predict the Premier League title will be won and lost on 28th April.

Apart from the goal scoring feats of some players, it’s worth noting the amount of penalties being missed and/or saved. Nine players have missed, and seven keepers have saved penalties already this season. That includes both Norwich City keepers. I’m not suggesting dropping all penalty takers from your squad. But don’t automatically think that because you’re lumbered with someone called Declan Rudd between your virtual sticks, that you’re going to pick up minus points every week.

  • Player of the week – Sergio Aguero. He’s cheaper than Rooney.
  • Bargain of the week – Phil Jones. A Man Utd defender, playing regularly, assisting and keeping clean sheets and costing 5.6 million should be considered a bargain. Rio who?
  • Donkey of the week – Carlos Tevez. Drab penalty. Drop him Roberto.

Goal o’t weekend
